What is a cue in training?

A cue for your pup

A cue for your pup is everything your dog can perceive.

Visual:

• Hand signal
• Body or eye movement

Auditory:

• Word
• Whistle
• Other sound

Environmental: 

• Someone knocking on your door – dog barks
• Getting into the food bin – dog gets excited for food
• Platform – dog goes there
• A car ride – somewhere fun or scary (like the vet)

Now the fun part… Picking the cue!

• If you already have a cue but your dog does not respond well to it (at least 80% of the time) let’s pick a new cue
  • It’s easier to condition a new cue than to change your dog’s emotional response to an old one

Use a happy tone of voice when saying your cue.
