A cue for your pup
A cue for your pup is everything your dog can perceive.
Visual:
- Hand signal
- Body or eye movement
Auditory:
- Word
- Whistle
- Other sound
Environmental:
- Someone knocking on your door – dog barks
- Getting into the food bin – dog gets excited for food
- Platform – dog goes there
- A car ride – somewhere fun or scary (like the vet)
Now the fun part… Picking the cue!
- If you already have a cue but your dog does not respond well to it (at least 80% of the time) let’s pick a new cue
- It’s easier to condition a new cue than to change your dog’s emotional response to an old one
Use a happy tone of voice when saying your cue.
